I am amazed at how grown up Asher has become (over-night, really). He has always had some ‘old soul’ tendencies, but lately he just seems so grown up that it brings a lump to my throat to think about!
He is such a thoughtful child. Most kids seem to need coaching on asking others about themselves, but not Asher. He is always asking people, “How’s your day? How’s your baby? or “How was your morning?” I’m amazed sometimes, at how much he really seems to care about other people. He is quick to say sorry and ask for forgiveness. He’ll even say sorry for things we don’t point out like, “I’m sorry I didn’t take my nap today, Mommy.” (No-naps are a common theme these days…) :)
In addition to being thoughtful, he is a thinker! Lately the spiritual questions he is asking are enough to blow us away. The other day we were talking about Jesus and God and he asked if there were “anymore” so I explained that there was also a Holy Spirit (not sure I’m equipped to explain the trinity to a three year old). He was perplexed by this third God, but had some really neat questions. Later he asked Chris if God lived inside of him, telling him, “I don’t feel him, Daddy.”
Chris and I both feel such an awesome privilege to explain the mysteries of Christ to Asher and pray for the day that he chooses to follow Him.
Asher is mostly really sweet to his brother. If he has to leave the playroom for something he’ll say, “Keep an eye on Jesse for me, Mommy.” :) Such sweet words! He told me this morning that if Daddy and I have to go somewhere he’d watch Jesse for us. Woo Hoo! Maybe we can go see a movie tonight, after all! :)
He has the normal moments of frustration when Jesse wrecks his puzzles or messes up his toys…. but for the most part he genuinely loves Jesse and is very protective.
Asher is so proficient on our “devices” (as I’m sure most kids are!) I’m amazed at how good he is at not just navigating my iPad or iPhone…. but how good he is at the games… specifically Angry Birds! :) He is also developing a love for the wii. It’s a special treat to play Mario Kart with Daddy, usually reserved for rainy days or weekends.
I know that I am 100% biased, but Asher really is a special kid! I am thankful EVERYDAY to be his mommy and to watch him grow. His new joke is to ask me if I want him to stay little forever, to which I always tell him “YES!!” and he laughs and laughs saying, “No way! I’m going to grow up to be a daddy!”
Not too fast, little boy…
