music under the stars

Last night we did one of my FAVORITE summertime things here in Indy.  We took Asher to Symphony on the Prairie at Conner Prairie.  The Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra performs concerts each weekend all summer long.  You can bring lawn chairs and picnic dinners.  It is SO much fun!  We loaded up Asher and all our picnic goodies in his little wagon and we were off…symphony-arrivingIn the background you can see the big hot air balloon that they have tethered.  It goes up 350 feet with a large observation deck.  We got a closer look once we were ‘inside.’  :)symphony-balloonWe actually bought these tickets for Chris for Father’s day so I think it was appropriate to go for Sci-Fi night!symphony-stormtrooper
Parts of the show were even narrated by George Takei a.k.a Sulu on Star Trek (I had to google all that information… I still have no idea who he is.  Other people seemed to think he was pretty impressive though!)  ;)

I was not sure how Asher would do for the entire concert.  They start at 7 (his normal bedtime) and go pretty late.  This show even ended with fireworks.  I had dreams of Asher falling asleep to the beautiful music and then us waking him for the fireworks.  HA!  I forgot… this kid LOVES music.  He danced, laughed, clapped, and smiled the WHOLE TIME.

I’m so glad he liked it!  He just chilled in his wagon and even allowed Chris and I to put our feet up and enjoy the cool sights and sounds!

I absolutely LOVE sitting at these concerts once dusk falls.  You can see a whole field of flickering citronella candles, families on blankets, couples sipping wine in lawn chairs, kids running around playing with glow stick bracelets… all with the backdrop of a starry sky and a colorful stage.  It just captures “Summer” to me!  symphony-stage

After the fireworks, which Asher loved (!!) the concert ended at about 10:30.  He was still going strong...  Making friends and playing peek-a-boo with perfect strangers all the way to the car.  He did crash once he hit his carseat though.  He was asleep by the time we pulled out of the parking lot.

Asher kept us laughing all night long with his funny and sweet antics.  More than once we looked at each other and said, “How did we get such a great kid?!”  We are truly blessed.  I’m so thankful for both my guys!
