Birthday Celebration… part 1!

We celebrated Asher’s birthday as a family on Tuesday night before his actual birthday, on Wednesday.  Chris flew out to California (for a wedding) after work on Wednesday so we wanted to make sure we got to celebrate together before he left.

When I put up the birthday banner Asher responded with, “ooooh, maybe cake??”  :)  He’s so funny about saying “maybe” these days.

Opening presents was a HIT!  He loved, loved, loved his presents and it was fun to see how much he got into tearing off the paper.

And then we played with them outside!

I guess I should say, Asher played with his toys.  Chris was actually working hard!  It was really hot so Asher and I went inside to cool off.  When he got in the house he said, “Thank you for the presents, Mommy!”  :)  Such a sweet boy!

We finished off our celebration with dinner and cupcakes…

Asher especially loved having us sing “Happy Birthday” to him! He requested that we sing it twice! :)

Wednesday morning we had a family breakfast before Chris left for work.

Chris and I ordered a backyard playset as a joint present along with our parents.  It arrived before Asher’s birthday, but with Chris’s arm in a cast we didn’t get a chance to assemble it so my dad agreed to help me put it together when they came down on Thursday.  So Tuesday night Chris laid all the pieces out in the garage after Asher went to bed.  The next morning when we went out to say good-bye to Chris Asher discovered the pieces and quickly put 2 and 2 together!  He was literally yelling, “It’s a house!  With a slide!  I play on it!!”  I told him that when Papa came he’d help Mommy put it together.  He replied, “Maybe Nana can help?”  :)  For the rest of the day there was LOTS of talk about Nana and Papa coming to help build his house!

The rest of Asher’s actual birthday was pretty low-key. We met friends at the park for a picnic lunch and played on the playground. We ended the night with chick-fil-a!

My parents came to stay with us Thursday-Sunday and promptly helped build the playset!!  :)  Asher LOVES it and had lots of fun playing outside with Nana and Papa!

I’m excited to have something for him to play on in the backyard this summer!  Thank you SO much to our parents for giving this to Asher along with us.  :)

Nana and Papa spent lots of time helping around the house and in the yard with projects this pregnant girl and Chris and his cast couldn’t do.  We are SO thankful for all their help!!  (Good news though, upon further x-ray Chris got his cast removed!  The doctor concluded it was not broken after all.)  Asher loved having Nana and Papa here.  Each morning they were the first people he wanted to see and loved playing with them all day long!
